Toronto hairstylist Kristjan Hayden wants you to “hang on” and have some patience as the salons pick up their pace after being closed since November 2020.
Haircuts are making a big comeback on June 30 as Ontario begins the second phase of its reopening plan. Your midlife curtain bangs can finally rest and you can leave your hair to the professionals.
Hayden, Creative Director and Hairstylist at Civello Salon & Spa in Toronto, told Narcity everything you need to know before sitting down for a haircut.
How can I get an appointment?
When it comes to making an appointment, Hayden says “patience is a virtue.”
“We work really hard to make sure we get the reservations, and we’re starting with the people we had to cancel last November when we closed for the second time.”
Civello’s online system is currently booked over three months in advance, so you may have to wait if you want to visit the Queen West Lounge.
While this may seem like a long time for a cut, they will operate at 25% capacity per provincial guidelines with therefore fewer staff and appointments available.
One piece of advice Hayden told Narcity when trying to get a date was to call to book online.
“Your best bet is to call, and if you leave a message and don’t get an answer right away, you can call again. We don’t mind at all. We want to take you back to the living room.” .
Will the services be limited?
As Ontario enters stage two on Wednesday, all personal services that do not require the removal of a face mask will be cleared to open.
Unlike last November, when brushing was not allowed, full hairstyling services will be provided, but some beauty procedures will be limited.
âThe general rule of thumb is that any service where you need to remove your mask, we just aren’t able to offer at this time. This includes some makeup services and spa services like facials.â
When people walk into the living room, Haydon urges them to be alert to COVID-19 regulations “by keeping six feet apart from each other whenever possible” and “making sure to keep your mask inside. salon”.
