Police reopen cold case of fatally beaten hairdresser at Newburgh town salon

New York State Police are stepping up their efforts to solve the murder of an 18-year-old Hudson Valley hairstylist and mother of two children killed in her salon.

Orange County resident Yvonne Torch was found dead the morning of June 9, 2004 inside the His and Hers Lounge on SR-9W in the town of Newburgh, police say.

Investigators said the 31-year-old owner and operator was brutally beaten to death.

Torch’s husband of 13 years, Pierre, says NBC’s Dateline that police initially considered him a suspect in the murder, but eventually ruled him out after three weeks of “pure hell”.

Despite reviewing hundreds of leads over the years, no suspects were ever identified.

Now, police hope advances in science and technology will breathe new life into the case.

Torch said Dateline Police have a new team of investigators dedicated to the case and he has “a really good feeling” the murder is finally solved.
