A hair salon in Lansing, Michigan is taking a stand and charging all genders the same price for services.
This shouldn’t be news. This shouldn’t be a big deal at all. Unfortunately, this is the case. Many products and services are more expensive for women. You do not believe me ? Check out disposable razors. If they are pink, they cost more. When you look at the average cost of a haircut, you will see a huge discrepancy between the price paid by a woman and the price paid by a man for the same service. According to youprobablyneedahaircut.com, there is a gap of nearly $30 from the national average,
The average price for a men’s haircut was $40. The average price for a women’s haircut was $66.
This same website points out that in Detroit, Michigan, the average cost of a haircut for men is $38, while that same cut would cost an average of $58 for women.
Hive Hair owners Jamie Ferris, Lexan Cranfill and Katie Pickett wanted to not only oppose this unnecessary gender price gap, but also create an environment where everyone feels safe and welcome.
Before trying to argue that haircuts are more expensive for women because they have more hair, Hive Hair owner and stylist Jamie Ferris pointed out the problem with this argument in an interview. with Fox 17,
Our price ranges are short, medium, long. It’s not masculine, feminine. Sometimes cutting a woman’s hair short takes as long as cutting a man’s hair. So why should we charge more for this or that?
The owners of this Lansing hair salon strive to have a gender-neutral business and will not judge or turn anyone away because of the hairstyle they want.
