Matlock hair salon selected for national industry awards less than a year after opening


Aspire Creative, on Matlock Green, will be in the national spotlight for the Salon Awards in London on November 21, after the team’s work earned them recognition for Best Salon, Best New Salon, Best Customer Experience and of the public’s choice award.

Ashley Orwin, who owns the business with her partner Jamie Hadleigh, said: “We’re very, very happy – totally thrilled. It was a real surprise, in the sense that we are a new salon in the area and we only opened for a short time.

Jamie is a seasoned stylist in the industry, but for Ashley it was a new adventure after successful careers as a dancer and flight attendant.

The salon welcomed its first customers in a brief window between closings last fall and was then forced to close for several months, but it quickly built a solid reputation and a loyal following of men and women. .

Business is going so well that the salon recently expanded its team with 16-year-old apprentice Gracie Clark.

Ashley, 33, said: “I think we’re very happy with the customer experience category. We always wanted it to be more than just an up-and-coming haircut. It’s an experience where you can get away from the world for an hour or two, rejuvenate yourself and feel better.

“It’s a cold environment, we don’t rush people, we devote a lot of time to consultations and services and everyone gets a prosecco, a beer or a coffee. It is a premium experience to live.

The salon aims to provide customers with a premium experience and an escape from everyday stress.

Once the clients were settled in, Creative Director Jamie, 30, and stylist Lily Slater took care of the cuts, and a portfolio of their best work obviously impressed the award judges when they were submitted with numerous documents and videos.

Ahead of the final, industry experts will take a closer look at the entrance and may pay an unannounced visit at any time, but the audience price will be decided by customers.

Ashley said: “I think we’ve had a lot of support already. Everyone is really behind us this year, it has been pleasant.

“We are all looking forward to the ceremony now. Lilly bought two dresses.
