A POPULAR hair salon Kendal celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Ruby Tuesday Hair Salon, located on Finkle Street, marked the occasion with a party with staff members and valued customers.
Owners Denise Thompson and Nichola Chapman have reflected on the past decade in business and look forward to many more successful years in Kendal.
Denise is from Glasgow and moved to Kendal 15 years ago, while Nichola is from Kirkby Stephen.
The two ladies used their business experience and educational background to build the city’s hugely popular business.
Denise said: âNicolas and I met when we were in college. Back then we were doing some teaching work on our classes and we got along really well.
âIt really built from there.
“We got along very well.
âShe worked at a place called Zacks and I worked there sometimes during the holidays, so we had worked well together.
âWe got the idea to get a place in Kendal because Nichola was looking for a new business partner.
âIt was a small business at the time, so we wanted to open something new.
âWe talked and planned about it for over a year before finding the premises in which we thought we could do well.
“We found the living room and it really snowballed from there.”
Denise said living in Kendal was “very different from living in the city, but it’s such a great place that made us feel very welcome from the start”.
âWe’ve made a lot of friends here and it’s been a great time for us,â she said.
âThat day we had a little party with our staff and some of our customers.
âThere was cake and a lot of balloons. We also had a small raffle for customers. They put their names and whoever won was pampered.
âWe have seen some changes in commerce over the past decade, including online shopping on the main streets. But we are lucky because we have a very loyal core of local customers for whom we are very grateful.
âWe look forward to growing our fantastic team and raising the next generation of barbers and stylists with our apprentices.
âWe feel incredibly touched by the support we receive from all of our customers. We are so happy to see everyone again since our reopening and the messages of support have been so touching.
“We are really grateful and look forward to seeing everyone as much as possible.”
