I’m a hairdresser and I hate it when people don’t wash their hair for days

If YOU thought that not washing your hair for a few days was the way to perfect a hairstyle, then you might want to think again.

While a little oil in your locks won’t hurt, one wedding hairstylist has taken it upon themselves to bust the myth that letting your hair down for a few days is key to nailing your barnet on the big day.

Instagram user @thee_hair_gal claimed there’s nothing that annoys her more than bridesmaids who think it’s a good idea to simmer their hair for a few days before their date.

If anything, it just looks dirty and can smell even worse.

Sharing a funny reel of her pet peeve, the stylist is seen asking a bridesmaid when she last washed her hair.

Posing as the bridesmaid, she said, “Bridesmaid: ‘Oh, I haven’t washed in five days because I heard dirty hair is better for updos… “

Playing the shocked stylist, she fumes then: “Excuse me, what?!?!”

The hair professional went on to share some tips which she urged others to follow as she insisted that dirty hair is not best for styling.

She wrote: “I don’t know who told people that dirty hair was better for high hairstyles, but that’s just NOT TRUE!

“Yes, a wash the night before getting your hair done is usually the perfect canvas for upstyling, but that’s not true for everyone, because like I said before, no one has the same hair! “

The stylist went on to share tips on how best to prep your hair ahead of the wedding day.

“You know your hair! If you tend to have super oily hair after not washing for a day, then wash it the same day. I can get your hair dirty, I can’t clean it,” a- she pointed out.

She warned that dirty hair will only be amplified when styled, due to the heated appliances and products used.

Don’t show up with 5 day greasy smelly hair this shit will be amplified when I start using the heat

“Don’t show up with greasy smelly 5 day hair, this shit will be amplified when I start using heat and no one wants to smell greasy 5 day hair,” she said.

“When we say ‘dirty hair’, we mean washed the day before or the night before. You don’t get extra credit for very crusty hair.”

The stylist continued: “Come with dry hair! If you wash your hair the day of please make sure you come with dry hair, wedding days are go go go so to help prepare your hair, make sure it’s dry for your stylist, we’ve probably just run out of time to do a full blow and style.”

Likewise, she added, “Do not straighten your hair (unless instructed by the stylist) Once your hair is straightened it will not hold a curl unless wet and dried again.”

She urged bridesmaids and brides to ask the onboard stylist what they think is best for their hair if they are unsure.

And concluding with a clear message for everyone, the stylist wrote, “The moral of the story is pretty much WASH YOUR HAIR, you’re mean!”

Fellow stylists have praised the woman for pointing out why dirty hair isn’t as ideal as people think, with one person commenting, “All of that…yeah.

Another joked: ‘I could do without customers with dirty hair.’

A third wrote: ‘Worst misconception ever!’

“God, you’re about to,” one more said, while another insisted, “We need to break this mindset!!!”

“I hate that myth,” another hair professional shared, prompting the stylist to respond, “Me too! When I have to wash my hands after doing your hair, there’s a problem.”
