TUPELO, MELLE. (WCBI) – Hairdresser from northeast Mississippi takes top honors in a global awards show that professionals say is tantamount to winning an Oscar, Grammy, or Heisman Trophy.
Every day, Amber Moyer creates works of art at the “Shear Envy” show on North Gloster Street.
The owner of the Tupelo salon began her career almost twenty years ago and was recently recognized for her artistic skills at the âOne Shotâ awards ceremony organized by the trade magazine âBehind the Chairâ.
âI made the Top 100 in the Platinum category, I made the Top 200 in the Balayge category and was a finalist in the redhead category,â said Moyer.
And she won the pastel category, beating over 350,000 stylists, also known as hairdressers, from around the world.
“When they called out my name I got goosebumps right now, reliving that moment over and over again, couldn’t believe it, I think I cried for two and a half hours afterwards and I said “Is this my life? ‘ she said.
Amber is quick to pay tribute to her friend, Jessica Lee, who was the model for the entries. She also says that the highest honor means a lot not only to her, but also to her styling team and those she will mentor.
âMy salon is more of an education salon, so I hire a lot of stylists from the beauty school, where I work with them, teach and mentor them and most of my team here because I want them to. they are fabulous and I want them to keep going and they can have great careers and chase their dreams and do it faster than the nineteen years it took me, âMoyer said.
Even with the big win, Amber Moyer says she has no plans to change anything. She and her team will continue to provide top notch personalized service to their clients, she will continue to mentor young hair artists and, at the same time, help place Mississippi on the global fashion map.
Over the past few years, Amber has been a finalist in several categories for the “One Shot” awards, but this is the first time she has taken first place in any category.
