Hair salon Matlock wins a Derbyshire quadruple at the National Salon Awards

After being named Derbyshire’s best new salon in 2021, less than a year after it opened between closings, the owners of Aspire Creative, on Matlock Green, returned to London for this year’s awards ceremony on Sunday November 13.

The result more than answered the pressure to repeat the feat after winning categories for Derbyshire’s Best Salon Team, Best Color Salon and Best Customer Experience, as well as Stylist of the Year for Creative Director Jamie Hadleigh, who owns the business with partner Ashley Orwin.

Ashley said: “We are so proud of our entire team, and even more composed that the categories reflect more than just amazing hairstyling, but the experience and environment that our family of salons creates. It’s always been about that for us – great hair should be a given.

Nearly 1,000 hair professionals gathered at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, near St Paul’s, to discover the winners of each category at county level, and Jamie and Ashley were accompanied by creative stylist Lily Slater and their latest recruit Tom Slack as they celebrated the victory.

The awards were again co-hosted by celebrity stylist Errol Douglas and awards founder Kate Jeffery.

Kate said: “2022 has seen the biggest year for the Salon Awards, receiving thousands of entries in the difficult process to be nominated for an award.

“There has been such a phenomenal response this year, it’s exciting to see so many people taking the plunge to make a difference in their business and their careers. As we all face rising costs, it’s never been more important to work hard to retain customers, generate new business and recruit a great team.

With Aspire Creative’s growing reputation and constant customer demand, Ashley and Jamie are considering how they can expand beyond their current premises, which they fell in love with while strolling on vacation in 2020.

Ashley said: “We exceeded all of our expectations. We never thought we’d be at this point so soon, but there’s even more exciting things to come.
