A shampoo is obviously an essential item in your shower basket. It is the basis of our hair care and styling routines. A shampoo is obviously meant to clean your scalp and hair from dirt, sweat, and excess oil. But a good shampoo will do it, without stripping your hair (and scalp) of the natural oil that helps keep your hair healthy. You don’t want too drying shampoo. So when choosing the right shampoo for your hair, keep in mind what are the problems with your hair, these can include dandruff, scalp oily, breakage, dryness. And buy one that targets these. Also, keep in mind that it’s best to avoid harmful chemicals like sulfates and parabens, especially if you tend to have dry hair.

The next step, after cleaning your hair well, is to nourish it. Most shampoos remove natural moisture from your hair while cleaning. So you need something to replenish that lost moisture and counter this drying effect. And a great way to do that is to use a rich, nourishing conditioner. There are plenty of conditioners out there that target different issues as well, but the main features you should look for is that it is moisturizing. Do not apply the conditioner directly to your scalp, it is only intended for the hair. Once applied, keep it on for at least five minutes and then rinse it off. If you have very dry hair, a leave-in conditioner is a great addition that you can try, along with DIY natural conditioners like bananas, eggs, beer washes, etc.

Now that you have restored the hydration and hydration to your hair, you need to take care of your scalp. A dry scalp will ultimately mean drier, more breakage-prone hair aside from the obvious result of dandruff and hair loss. Everyone should oil their hair and scalp well at least once a week (if you have oily hair) and up to two to three times a week (if you have dry hair). If you have serious hair or scalp issues, be sure to consult a dermatologist before deciding on a hair care routine. But for most of us, having a good hair oil in our kit can solve many hair problems that we tend to face.

The next is a hair serum. There are basically two types of hair serum, one is used for styling and the other which hydrates and nourishes your hair. The first type is for temporary use, only affecting the appearance, for example, making it smoother. Use them to style your hair using a blow dryer. On the flip side, continued use of a hydrating serum fights dryness, frizz, breakage, and even split ends. The great thing about serums is that they don’t need to be washed off and they work instantly on your hair, giving it a quick and easy lift and shine effect.
Pro tip: Use a moisturizing serum while your hair is still damp, for best results.

Finally, finish off your essential hair care kit by topping it off with a hair gel or hair wax. You have to choose the right product according to the desired look, shiny or mat, flexible or firm hold. The gel will give you a wet look, but a longer hold, while the pomade and hair wax are lightweight and great for styling your hair smoothly. Ultimately, which one you use is determined by what you are looking for, as well as your hair type.
Pro tip: If you have dry hair, avoid hair gel because it dries it out even more.
