Gardner celebrates 38 years as a hairstylist

Terry Gardner, longtime owner of Rehoboth Beach Yoga, was celebrated in a spectacular tribute to cap off her 38 years as a hairstylist. Drexel Davison, owner of Rehoboth Beach’s Bad Hair Day, honored Gardner’s 28 years of work at his popular salon with a cocktail and dinner on May 1 at Salt Air in Rehoboth Beach. Davison instructed guests to not only keep the party a guest of honor surprise, but also to wear white.

The evening was a sea of 50 shades of white in homage to Gardner’s usual white attire, signifying her deep yogic roots. Coincidentally, her trademark white attire now also represents her iconic status in the area’s yoga community.

Gardner has deep roots in the community. She was born in Rehoboth Beach, raised on Maryland Avenue and educated locally. Prior to joining Bad Hair Day, she spent 10 years in the beauty industry. She owned a salon on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, then ran a Rehoboth salon after being the first person to obtain a national esthetician license. Davison met Gardner and her husband Doug at the Ground Zero restaurant, where Salt Air is located today. He was a waiter serving them for their 11th birthday. Davison was about to open her salon. That night, he tapped into her experience and expertise, which made Gardner a silent powerhouse for 28 years at Bad Hair Day.

May saw Terry Gardner hit the trifecta: wrapping up her 28th birthday on Bad Hair Day, 40th wedding anniversary with hubby Doug and celebrating her 70th birthday. All worthy of a spectacular launch party featuring a “Who’s Who” of Rehoboth, old and new. Guests included Bad Hair Day staff members, clients and former clients, past and present yoga students, notable citizens of the community, childhood friends and legions of family. The wide array of attendees led Gardner to comment that the evening felt like a version of “This is Your Life!” Davison paid a heartfelt tribute to Gardner’s years of service, peppered with amusing anecdotes as well as a litany of spiritual lessons that Gardner passed on or simply modeled during his many years at Bad Hair Day. The champagne flowed, the groaning plank groaned, the spirits were joyful; All in all, a wonderful launch into Chapter III for Terry Gardner, reigning captain at the helm of Rehoboth Beach Yoga.
